IMPORTANT NOTICE - AVIAN INFLUENZA
Whilst the risk is currently officially considered to be low for our area we should not forget that Carsington acts as a temporary host to many migrating birds and therefore we should not be complacent.
As far a Carsington Sailing club is concerned we need to put a simple procedure into place in the unlikely event that dead or dying birds are found:
For those of you on the water please notify either Mick, Lyn or the duty officer if you notice any dead or dying birds. Please also try and note the rough position on the water. Please do not retrieve the bird.
For those on the shore please notify as above and do not touch any such birds: ensure that you keep pets and children well out of the way.
Should you inadvertently come into contact with a dead bird it is "important that you should wash your hands with soap and water as soon as possible. Avoid touching your face and certainly do not eat until you have washed your hands. Clean any soiling on clothing with soap and water." (DEFRA guidance) ,
Should you wish to gain more information the following web site at DEFRA carries the official government advice and guidance.
