Handicap catamaran fleet
The fleet is grateful to the management committee in their decision to purchase a catamaran for training purposes. The decision to purchase the highly specified Topaz 16CX should help us to develop and grow our fleet for some years to come. See the training page for details of taster days and training courses.
The Handicap Catamaran fleet is made up of boats varying from the ultra safe and easy to sail Dart 16 right up to the ‘pants on fire’ F16 and F18 Boats. The fleet contains single trapeze, twin trapeze, single hander and double hander boats. We also have boats which have the added excitement and complication of an asymmetric spinnaker, further transforming its downwind performance of what are already fast craft.
All boats in the Handicap Catamaran fleet are in accordance with our boat limits. There are a number of catamaran makes including: Dart, Hobie, Nacra, Hurricane and Prindle.
For catamaran racing there are three races on Sunday’s and a Wednesday evening race (light permitting). Handicap catamaran racing is rated under the SCHRS (small catamaran handicap rating system) which assures a fair result for all competitors. Most of the regular racing fleet are also nomadic in that they travel to many of the open meetings available, probably more for the beach party life rather than for the racing itself !
2008 saw a number of Carsington Youth start sailing Dart 18's and will over the course of 2009 progress through club training into racing.
We will also be holding the Catamaran Open meeting 26/27 September.
Members interested in trying out catamaran sailing, or wishing to do a Catamaran Conversion Course should contact the office.
