RS700Why sail a 700?

Do you really have to ask why we sail the RS700?
It's just wicked fun with serious grin factor, it’s not easy, but it’s not impossible to sail. Yes there are many that frown upon us because it’s not made of wood and there are others that think we are just plum crazy. If it was easy would we bother? If it did not set us apart would we sail it? If it was made wood, would we have the time to practice! Probably not. But if Carlsberg made single handed high performance boats they’d probably make this one.
On top of this the RS700 is simple, makes you feel alive, keeps you fit and is completely absorbing.

Why the Fleet?
We are banding together as an unofficial fleet for the purpose of having loads of fun on well earned time off. We want to help each other achieve the broadest grins in the land. Getting faster and better, but even this is about having fun and this may require some serious conversation over cake, bacon butties a mug of tea or some focused coaching in the bar or on the shore.
If you are interested then come and talk to us. We are very approachable but will quiz you about what you have sailed and offer friendly helpful advice.

Fleet Motto:

“aving fun, gettin drunk and doin owt”

About the Boat:

The RS700 was designed to bring skiff style sailing fashioned on the Aussie 18 footers to the single hander. When you logically consider what’s involved it seems impossible, but the 700 enables you to do this without growing extra arms and hands. What is this I hear you say. Well you can experience just how the old sailing paradigms on just how fast a boat can go relative to wind were broken by the unique abilities of the modern skiff. Sail faster than the wind speed – that’s the goal. The 700 lets you know when she gets there as she sings to you! Those of you into the physics and maths related to this go read Bethwaites book!  And…..
You don’t need a crew!
You can compete with a wide range of people equally through weight equalisation.
You can control the boats rig to such an extent that you can have fun in a Force 1 through to Force 6 beaufort scale.
If you do capsize... Heck most of us are as heavy as the boat getting her back upright is easy.
And those that have competed report the RS700 official race events are fantastic.

Still not convinced check out the U Tube website:
This stars current members of the fleet filmed in glorious colour by the talented Julian Shaw. Video is one way we will help each other get better. Watch out for more!
