Sailability - Duke of Devonshire Trophy, 26th May 2010
Just to say a big thank you for making last Wednesday's Duke of Devonshire Trophy event such a great success.
There were 21 boats taking part from all over the country including clubs and sailability groups such as Tideway from London, Rutland, Frensham Pond, The New Forest and Northampton.
I would like to thank especially those 'volunteers' who are full members of Carsington Sailing Club and did such a grand job of manning the hoist prior to the racing and power boats during.
A big 'thank you' also goes to Henry Wright for running the racing on suh a frustrating day weather wise. I thought he was committing suicide when I saw him driving the committee boat at full tilt towards the dam wall. Then when I saw the buoys being moved I realised there had been a massive wind shift of some 90 degrees before we could start racing.
I was surprised to see so many ladies taking part, in fact three of the four classes were won by ladies - Tessa Watkiss the 303 single - Linsay Burns the 2.3 - and Claire Andrews the Liberty class.
I can only assume that there is a lot of training for ladies going on because the 'Skud', the new Paralympic Class, must have a mixed crew.
What are we doing in this area.
Looking forward to seeing you on the water.
